June 29, 2003: JUJ and the Community Task Force for the Needs of the Jewish Elderly held a Town Hall meeting attended by over 150 people. The Findings and Recommendations about the Jewish Center for the Aged were presented and people attending expressed their concerns and ideas for solutions. These concerns will be attached to the full report and sent to JCA Board members and Task Force members. The report strongly recommended that all aspects of the JCA maintain a high quality of care and a strong Jewish character in a facility that is affordable for the whole community. In June 2003, JUJ received an award for Democracy In Action from the American Jewish Congress for our work in challenging the JCA's proposed cuts in Medicaid beds and to encourage the JCA to recommit to its mission to serve all Jews who needs long-term care, regardless of their ability to pay.

March 2003: JUJ sponsored a Public Forum on the Crisis at the Jewish Center for the Aged. Over 200 people attended and many people provided comments on their concerns about the JCA and its future commitment to its mission to care for the elders in our community.

February 2003: JUJ held a membership meeting at Hillel to consider a resolution to take action to fight the proposed Medicaid cuts at the Jewish Center for the Aged. The resolution was unanimously approved.

November 2002: JUJ sponsored a membership event featuring a presentation by Yavillah McCoy who spoke and lead discussion about racism, anti-semitism and internalized anti-semitism. Michael and Margie Kahn hosted this event.

February 2002: Simon Greer spoke on Jewish organizing around job issues in the Washington D. C. are and Rabbi Andrea Goldstein focused on the Jewish basis for work on behalf of low wage workers in the health care industry.

January 2002: JUJ sponsored a membership event to discuss the impact of September 11 Terrorism on Jews as individuals and on the Jewish Community. The discussion was led by Gloria Gordon and Philip Deitch and the event was hosted by Raymond and Alberta Slavin.

September 2001: JUJ held a meeting on the Voluntary Student Transfer Program and voted to support that program.. Speakers were James DeClue, Jere Hochman, and Susan Uchitelle.

May 1999 was the founding meeting of Jews United for Justice at Hillel.
