AN OPPORTUNITY FOR JUJ MEMBERS/FRIENDS

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to invite you to the first-ever national Jewish social justice organizing training:

Sunday, December 4, 9:00 am to Tuesday, December 6, 3:00 pm Chicago, Illinois hosted by Jewish Council on Urban Affairs.

Registration for the training costs $100 (includes program, materials and all breakfasts
and Monday night dinner, dietary laws will be observed). Boxed lunches and a boxed
dinner for Sunday night will be available for $10 each, with prepaid registration (or
participants may opt to eat on their own near the training site).
Registration deadline: November 15, 2005

This training emerged from Tzedek Yalin Bah, the national Jewish social justice
conference that took place in April 2005 in Chicago. A number of conference
participants identified the need for an organizing training aimed specifically at Jewish
leaders. This first training is designed as a demonstration to learn the most important
components that groups want to learn about community organizing for Jewish social
justice groups.

This training is a joint collaboration of Jewish Community Action, the Jewish
Community Relations Council of Boston, the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, the Jewish Funds for Justice, the Jewish Organizing Initiative, The Institute on Jewish Spirituality, and the Progressive Jewish Alliance.

This training will include sessions on:

  • Effective organizing techniques, including one-to-one conversations
  • Identifying issues, forming coalitions and planning campaigns
  • Jewish methodologies and theories of organizing
    And much more

The training is geared toward members and staff of Jewish social justice organizations,
synagogue social justice leaders, and others who wish to do social justice organizing
    with a Jewish bent.

There will also be ample opportunity to network with other social justice leaders, share ideas, see JCUAs work with community organizations in Chicago, and brainstorm about
    future collaborations.

Please see the attached memo with detailed information as well as the attached
    preliminary agenda for the training.
